Prosecco wines are Italian most popular sparkling wine. While its often compared to champagne, it is made with different winemaking methods. Prosecco is made from a single grape but comes in many quality levels. Technically, prosecco is a sparkling wine that originates from the valdobbiadene in Veneto, Italy. The wine is made with the glera grape and made with charmat sparkling method. Since, 2020 prosecco rose has also joined the family. This is a light-bodied wine with green fruit (pear) and floral aromas. It can be either dry or medium in sweetness.

HOW PROSECCO WINE IS MADE

It is made with charmat sparkling method. Basically, the charmat method is a sparkling wine making process that traps bubbles in wine via carbonation in large steel tanks. The charmat method begins like the traditional method with the creation of an uncarbonated base wine. This wine is mixed with a measure of sugar and yeast together then put in a large stainless steel pressure tank. The yeast and sugar cause a second fermentation in the closed tank, which is held under pressure so the carbon – dioxide from the fermentation is forced into the wine. The second fermentation takes one to six weeks after which the fizzy wine is immediately filtered and bottled. The dosage is added at bottling, usually to a brut level of sweetness (6-12 grams of sugar per litre)

PAIRING FOOD WITH PROSECCO WINE

If you love brunch, prosecco is the best pick for it. The fruitiness in the prosecco wine amplified the citrus flavors of the orange or grape juice and it pairs well with brunch style foods. Due to its sweet aromatics and bubbles, prosecco pairs well with spicy curries and southeast Asian cuisine, including Thai, Vietnamese, Hong-Kong and Singaporean dishes. Prosecco also pairs well with salty, oily or fried dishes.
